About ISO

What is ISO?

+
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world's largest developer of voluntary International Standards. International Standards give state of the art specifications for products, services and good practice, helping to make industry more efficient and effective. Developed through global consensus, they help to break down barriers to international trade.

What does ISO do?

+
ISO develops International Standards. Founded in 1947, ISO has published more than 21,000 International Standards covering almost all aspects of technology and business. From food safety to computers, and agriculture to healthcare, ISO International Standards impact all our lives.

What are the benefits of ISO International Standards?

+
International Standards ensure that products and services are safe, reliable and of good quality. For business, they are strategic tools that reduce costs by minimizing waste and errors and increasing productivity. They help companies to access new markets, level the playing field for developing countries and facilitate free and fair global trade.

What does "international standardization" mean?

+
When the large majority of products or services in a particular business or industry sector conform to International Standards, a state of industry-wide standardization can be said to exist. This is achieved through consensus agreements between national delegations representing all the economic stakeholders concerned - suppliers, users and, often, governments. They agree on specifications and criteria to be applied consistently in the classification of materials, the manufacture of products and the provision of services.

ISO 9001 (QMS)

What is ISO 9001?

+
ISO 9001 'Quality Management Systems Specifications with Guidance for use' is a requirements standard. It contains a set of requirements to define the operation of the Quality Management System. Since the requirements are expressed in a general form, it has the flexibility to be applied to any organization. ISO 9001 is the only certification standard in the ISO 9000 family.

Which ISO 9000 standard is meant for certification?

+
Any organization can apply for certification against ISO 9001. The other standards i.e. ISO 9000 and ISO 9004 are guidance standards and are not meant for certification.

I want to be an ISO 9001 auditor: where can I get training?

My organization provides services. How is ISO 9001 applicable to us?

+
ISO 9001 is designed to be applicable to all organizations regardless of type, size, or product/service provided. Service organizations can implement ISO 9001 by focusing on customer requirements, service delivery processes, and continuous improvement. The standard's requirements are flexible enough to accommodate service-specific processes.

Certification Process

How long does the certification process take?

+
The certification timeline varies based on your organization's size, complexity, and readiness. Typically, from application to certification, the process takes 2-4 months. This includes document review (Stage 1), implementation assessment (Stage 2), and certification decision.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits?

+
Stage 1 is a document review to verify your management system documentation meets standard requirements. Stage 2 is a comprehensive on-site audit to assess the actual implementation and effectiveness of your management system in practice.

How long is the certification valid?

+
ISO certifications are valid for three years. During this period, annual surveillance audits are conducted to ensure continued compliance. After three years, a recertification audit is required to renew your certificate.

What happens if non-conformities are found during the audit?

+
Non-conformities (CARs - Corrective Action Requests) must be addressed with corrective actions. Minor non-conformities can be resolved after certification is granted. Major non-conformities must be corrected before certification can be awarded. Our auditors work with you to ensure timely resolution.
